Carrier updates are a trail of breadcrumbs, not a live signal
A carrier tracking number reflects scan events: a barcode gets read when a parcel arrives at a hub, leaves a sort facility, or is handed to a driver. Between those scans — which can be hours or a full day apart — the status simply doesn't change. "In transit" is not a location. It's the absence of new information.
That model works fine when a package is fungible and cheap. It falls apart when the shipment is worth thousands, is time-critical, or is your customer's problem the moment it's late. You find out something went wrong after it already went wrong — usually when the next scan doesn't happen on schedule.
What live GPS gives you that a scan can't
